When I think about organization, I don’t think of myself. Like ever!

My goal for 2017 is to get my life together. I’m not looking for a quick fix or minimalist craziness. I need something that actually works.

I’ve searched far and wide to find something that works for the working mom. Believe me, there isn’t much by way of organization.

Organize Your Home

My husband is the organized one in our relationship so he takes care of keeping our paperwork in order.

As for all the other things, I’ve found that he’s super OCD about where things are put away. Which is fine with me most times because he likes to put things away.  Sometimes, though, I have this idea in my mind of where certain things should go and he has a different idea. The best way to deal with those situations is to discuss it and make suggestions.

Kitchen organization can also be pretty daunting to the working mom. You only spend a few hours in the kitchen at night and in the morning, but it’s important to keep that area neat and in order.

My tip for this is to go in with a plan. Know where things should be so that the most used items are within easy reach. The Kitchn came up with an awesome list of kitchen organization tips from their readers. It’s a very comprehensive list and I recommend checking out the entire post.

Organize Your Work

I have paperwork everywhere at my desk. The mess makes sense to me and I (sometimes) know where to find things, but it looks very unprofessional.

Lifehack has an awesome post of 21 ways to organize your work desk. I tried a few of them and the tips completely revamped my office. I especially liked number 13.  There were piles everywhere!

Keeping your personal life organized while at work can be difficult too. You’re expected to give 100% of your efforts to the job at hand while worrying about your kids. It’s a lot for working moms to keep up with.

I’ve found a few tips that help me keep my work life structured from my personal life.

  • Stay off social media while you are at work
  • Plan ahead for any family events or meals
  •  Start every work day with a fresh mind (definitely easier said than done)

Organize Your Life

Life is so difficult to organize. Believe me, I’ve tried.

  4. Great tips! I know I feel so much better when my kitchen is clean and the counters are clear. I work a goofy schedule as a labor and delivery nurse so I’m often on for four nights then off for a week. The house is usually a disaster after my four nights on and I’m too tired during the day to tackle it the few hours I’m actually home. But I always try to clean up the kitchen! Love your blog and your honesty, it’s refreshing and nice to know I’m not alone dealing with my depression and life in general!
